In order to take a stand on an issue and fight for what you believe is right, you must know all that there is to know about the topic. So, know what the opponents of your issue believe and why.

Due to the tragedy of 911 and the signing of the USA PATRIOT  act, people desire increased security measures to control people. Photo-radar has become one way that the government is trying to make the USA "safer" - Photo-radar cameras make public roads safer for all motorists and pedestrians using them.

  •  Photo-radar saves LIVES. Due to the high frequency of crashes, supporters argue that cameras/ticketing devices effectively deter motorists from speeding and running red lights, thereby decreasing the amount injuries and deaths, which the US has seen enough of.
  • Photo-radar deters speeding and encourages adherence to the LAW. As stated on photocop.com in the red-light section, "law enforcement intends to stop red-light runners for their own good." And to deter motorists from disregarding the "rules of the road,"  by forcing drivers to slow down and to adhere to the law. People who break the law are automatically photographed and sent an appropriate fine. If the government cannot teach people to drive safely, then advocates of Photo-radar believe that scaring them with fines will.  Fear seems to be a more effective deterrent than asking nicely.
  • Not enough COPS. As far as law enforcement is concerned, they argue that there are not enough police officers in the US and Boulder to monitor the roads and intersections, properly. Their solution is to place "objective" cameras (monitored by a specially trained technician) to catch and ticket offenders.
  • Not for MONEY! The final argument in favor of photo radar is that of revenue. Some websites state that revenue is only a minor part of the equation of why photo-radar is used. However this is a very misleading statement. For example, the city of Boulder, CO states that the installation and use of cameras has cost more than the revenue that has been collected by the distributed tickets. So, Boulder cares more about lives and safety than it does about money. They swear that the cameras are not a tool to generate revenue for the city, however if they did that would not be a bad thing.

There are other arguments to support using photo-radar. The above reasons are the four principle arguments . Proponents of photo radar strongly believe that these cameras and public monitoring devices should remain on the streets for reasons of SAFETY, DETERRANCE, LAW ENFORCEMENT and REVENUE.
