If it were only a few traffic cameras- it wouldn't be that big of a deal, but there is more to the problem.
- Some of the money goes to private industry that has no interest in public good- only profit.
- There is a huge potential for abuse. Abuse by the government and the private industry that profit from it. This kind of abuse has already been documented in San Diego.
- Even if you aren't doing anything wrong you will act differently when someone is watching. The difference may be subtle, but it takes away from your individuality.
- Traffic cameras are just one part of a larger surveillance state that includes facial recognition cameras in public places, surveillance on buses and schools and the potential for much more.
- Each time someone takes away privacy and freedom, it is gone forever and we will never get it back. It also sets a precedent that makes it easier the next time. That is why EVERY encroachment on our freedom and privacy must be fought tooth and nail.
- There is no such thing as an acceptable trade of freedom for safety.
